Finally!! I was able to go to the eye doctor. I had to wait for the new insurance to kick in etc. We had the same vision insurance with SuperGeeks old employer, this insurance has a little bit better coverage, see procrastinating pays off!!
Jeepers, it takes forever….how many times can they ask you “is this better, how about this”, how can the doctor not go insane after a full day of saying that? I really want to get the best eye sight I can right? so I really take my time looking…well, they want you to hurry up…they totally speed you through it, she even said to me not to “over” think it. Well, pardon me I can only get one prescription every two years, I really cant f*** it up now can I?? I got distracted because there was a little blur on the image. Apparently, nothing to worry about.
Now, the eye docs are pushing some extra test to make sure you don’t have a brain tumor, only it costs $15 extra and not covered by insurance. They are so confident that you will take this service, that they don’t even have a no box on the form. I declined….I mean $15 extra dollars!!! If it is so grand and saves lives blah, blah, blah then I should get it for free.
S was with me and I must say he was a very good boy. I bribed him with a new (well new to him) rubber alligator from the resale shop. The alligator then proceed to chomp on all his little matchbox cars and basically terrorize the staff at the eye glass shop. Near the end of the exam he did start fading away I don’t think he could stand to hear another ”is this better” he started softly groaning.
I did almost flip out when she attempted to put the eye drops in my eyes…cant do it! No way. I could put them in myself but, if she’s gonna hold them open and do it NO WAY. She tried to convince me to do it but I said no..I could tell I disappointed her.
With S moaning, and me hyperventilating about the eye drops the doc decides she needs to wrap it up. We are almost ready to leave when tells me that she can give me a little mock up of the glasses. As I am commenting how cool that is, and wondering aloud if every place does that…. she tells me that this is something of her own design-then after she struggles with it for about 5min I understand why this is not something all eye docs do, it really doesn’t work very well. The little pieces of glass kept falling out! Basically it was useless.
S was totally no help in choosing the new frames, by then he was bored and hungry. A dangerous combination. I did get some chosen quickly and hustled him out of there, before he had a melt down. He was very mad that I didn’t buy him lunch afterwards. Oh well!!!
Yesterday, he came to the haircut place with me. Ahhh, before kids I was able to afford a nice salon, after kids, it is cost cutters. I have no problem with the stylists technical abilities, while they are not avent garde or ultra cool they can usually get the job done….customer service wise it is always hit or miss.
I usually encounter goofballs at every other appt. This time the woman spent an extraordinary amount of time complaining about my eyebrows. How hard they are to wax etc. Geez, I am not an ape woman asking for a total body wax…furthermore, others have waxed my eyebrows without complaint!!
I am pretty sure making your client feel self conscious is under the DO NOT do in the manual. Finally I had to tell the dunce “that is why I come here”.
Glad to hear that you got your annual eye exam!
Yes, sometimes it can be crazy saying “One or Two” all day long….but the part that you (as the patient) don’t see is the doctor analyzing and making subtle adjustments after each of your responses. And the reason we go fast is so your eyes don’t try to “focus” on each lens – this can actually make the prescription wrong. Don’t worry, most times the doctor knows which lens is really better for you – they are just asking you to confirm!!
I know its frustrating and you want to get it perfect (its time and money that you are spending!) but, you can’t fail….so don’t worry
The $15 test is probably a visual field test that your insurance does not cover – I see it all the time. Patients decline really important tests because their insurance does not cover it. A lot of vision plans do not cover tests that are looking for medical issues.
I HAVE found 4 brain tumors and numerous other Optic nerve problems in my patients over the past 10 years using this test – and insurance did NOT cover it. Remember – insurances are in business to NOT pay. That is how they make money. Your doctor is trying to do what is best for you….unfortunately, your insurance plan not always will.
If I were you, I’d go back and have the test done and spend the $15 – it IS really worth it. (and I don’t know your doctor or where you go for your exam….so I have no financial interest in telling you to do so…I’m just giving you advise as another eye doc).
I hope this was useful for you!
